Mixing and editing

Your stems or session go to our mix engineer; you receive a balanced mix with room for feedback, plus exports suited to streaming and download.

Mix engineer at console with monitors and outboard in control room

Mixing and editing at Miekpixel is an offline workflow: not an hourly session with you behind the faders unless we agree that separately. Noor Bakker works in the 22 m² control room on nearfields and the same outboard used for tracking, keeping tone consistent when you recorded here.

You supply labelled WAV stems or a tidy bounce — our bounce versus stems guide avoids surprises. Mix fees are per track or EP/album packages; then mastering can set final level. Delivery questions? Contact us — reply within 2 business days.

How it works

  1. 01

    Delivery

Upload link or SSD with stems, tempo map and references. We check sync, clipping and missing tracks before starting.

  2. 02

    First mix

Balance, EQ, dynamics, effects and edits. We send a mixdown (and optional instrumentals) for your first listen.

  3. 03

    Revisions

Up to 2 rounds with bundled email feedback. Major arrangement changes sit outside revision scope.

  4. 04

    Finals

Approved mix as WAV/FLAC, plus stems or instrumental on request. Handoff to mastering when you want it.

Offline workflow

Mixing needs focus without an audience in the room. We schedule mix work between recording days with stated turnaround — usually a few business days per track, EPs longer in batch. You do not need to be on site; we do expect clear written feedback each revision round so changes stay traceable. Listen on headphones and speakers at home before sending notes so we catch detail and overall balance together.

Need an attended mix? That is an exception and separate rate; standard Mixing and editing stays remote-friendly for artists outside Amsterdam.

What we mix

Pop, rock, hip-hop, electronic with live elements, singer-songwriter material — anything with sensibly built stems. We do not fully rescue a single stereo bounce without separate tracks unless you accept limited control; read when stems are needed.

Edits (trim intro, extend outro, swap a bad bar) belong to mix when they use existing takes. New recording goes through vocal or band sessions and arrives as extra stems.

Delivery specification

Send:

  • WAV 24-bit, preferably 48 kHz, all tracks from the same start point
  • No master-bus processing on export unless documented
  • Track list with BPM, key and any tempo changes
  • Reference mixes (for balance and space, not cloning)

Name tracks consistently (e.g. vox_lead, bgv_1, gtr_rhythm). Zip or cloud link; no proprietary format without discussion. Unsure? Email [email protected] with a sample folder.

Revisions and scope

Each mix includes 2 revision rounds. Bundle notes per track: “chorus vocal +1 dB, bass less mid, shorter drum reverb”. Scattered messages count as one round if they arrive together. Extra rounds bill at mix-engineer hourly rate.

Revisions cover balance and tone, not new production. Replacing vocals or rewriting arrangement is out of scope — book extra recording or production time.

Delivery formats

Standard delivery:

  • Stereo mix WAV 24-bit for master or streaming
  • Optional instrumental / TV mix
  • Optional group stem bounces (drums bus, music bed) at extra cost

We do not smash loudness in mix — that happens in mastering. Want to discuss LUFS targets early? See streaming loudness in the guides hub.

Archive and rights

We keep mix sessions 14 months, then delete unless you buy an extension. You keep ownership of recordings; we claim no master rights. Portfolio use of your mix needs separate written OK.

File handling falls under privacy policy; unreleased sensitive material stays confidential. No sharing with third parties except mastering when you book mastering here.

Not included

Mastering, vinyl prep, sample clearance, extra production, tuning bad recordings beyond normal correction, and 24-hour rush without prior agreement. Attended mix in the studio is not default — ask availability.

We mix material tracked elsewhere if stems are technically sound. If a file is corrupt we flag it immediately before billing extra time. More answers in FAQ. Miekpixel, Wibautstraat 224, 1097 DN Amsterdam — Mon–Fri 10–19, Sat 11–17.

FAQ

How fast is the first mix?

Single track: usually within a few business days after approved stems. EPs and albums get a batch schedule in the quote.

Can I send one stereo bounce?

Only if you accept limited control. For serious releases we recommend stems — see the delivery guide.

How should I send revision notes?

One email per round with timestamps or section names. Reference links help; vague chat fragments without context do not.

Do you mix sessions from other studios?

Yes, when stems are aligned and not clipped. Tracking in our live room simplifies handoff but is not required.

What happens after mix?

Send the mix to mastering for final level and streaming formats. Attended master is optional there.
